Cryptid
Clean and simple design with subtle textured lines. This shawl’s shape is inspired by a creature that might exist— think stingray, but not quite. Maybe it’s lurking in the deep sea, waiting for a marine biologist to spot it. Until then, it’s just a beautiful mystery.
Prototype shawl is also available for purchase.
Construction: this shawl is worked in one piece, sideways, with German short rows (knowledge of the technique is required).
Materials:
3.5mm circular needles,
Yarn (fingering weight, 400m/100g). For the shawl as pictured, you will need 160g/650m.
You can also use sport-weight, in which case you’ll use more yarn by weight (about the same yardage). The shawl can be made any size; if you plan to make it larger, make sure to have enough yarn for your experiments.
Use solid yarn with good stitch definition! Avoid speckled/melange/self-striping yarn, as it may obscure shawl’s texture. Slow gradient yarn can be used with this pattern.
Gauge: 22 sts x 28 rows = 10cm (4")
Finished measurements: 57cm drop. 150 cm wingspan.
