You can use any two contrasting colors as long as you don't switch light and dark on the charts.
Materials and size
Materials:
50 g of fingering-weight yarn in MC and CC color(s). 
Circular needles size US 0-2, depending on your gauge / size needed.
Some scrap yarn or stitch holders for the thumb stitches.
Tapestry needle 
Gauge and size: 36 x 40 = 4” for size small/medium; 
adjust your gauge if you need a different size.
